  1. Three-time world champion Mark Selby won the European Masters snooker title for the first time after beating fellow Englishman Martin Gould 9-8 in the final in Milton Keynes.

Gould came back from 4-0 down to make it 4-4 at the interval and then there was no more than ione frame between the pair to the end of the match.

    In the all-English semi-finals, Selby
had beaten Shaun Murphy 6-3 and world No.53 Gould upset global number one Judd Trump 6-3.

  2. County champions Essex won the Bob Willis Trophy final, which this year is the English first-class cricket title, after their match with Somerset at Lord's in London ended in a draw.

The eastern county were declared winners due to having scored more runs in the first innings.
It means Somerset's wait for a first red-ball county title continues.

In a repeat of the County Championship-deciding fixture of last season, it was again Essex taking the silverware at Somerset's expense.
