1936 Winter Olympic Games
Garmisch Partenkirchen, Germany
The fourth Winter Olympics was attended by a record 28 nations, with an unprecedented 727 male and 80 female competitors more than doubling the figures from the previous winter Games at Lake Placid. Norway resumed their position at the top of the medal table - the third time the Scandinavians had achieved the feat at a winter Games. The United States claimed just one Gold - their worst showing at any Olympic Games they have attended.
