2006 Winter Olympic Games
Turin, Italy
The 20th Winter Olympics were the second held in Italy, Cortina d'Ampezzo having staged the Games in 1956. Germany returned to the top of the medals table, the third time since reunification between East and West in 1989 that the Germans had achieved the feat. For the first time 80 nations and over 2500 (2587 to be precise) athletes competed.
