Irish jockey Rachael Blackmore made history as the first female to ride the winner of one of the most prestigious events in British horse racing, the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham, with victory on Honeysuckle for trainer Henry de Bromhead.
Last year's runner-up Sharjah was second again, with the 2020 champion, Epatante, in third.
Elsewhere on day one of the Festival, Appreciate It and Shishkin both looked like future senior champions in winning the Supreme Novices' Hurdle and Arkle Trophy respectively and Black Tears triumphed in the Mares' Hurdle.
