Irish-trained Poetic Flare won the St James's Palace Stakes on day one of the Royal Ascot race meeting for handler Jim Bolger and jockey Kevin Manning to follow up their success in last month's 2,000 Guineas. The runner-up was Lucky Vega, with Battleground in third.
Last year's SJP winner Palace Pier triumphed in the Queen Anne Stakes for trainers John & Thady Gosden under jockey Frankie Dettori from Lope Y Fernandez with Sir Busker third.
In the day's other Group 1 race, jockey Cieren Fallon, son of retired six-time champion Kieren, claimed his first Royal Ascot victory with Oxted, trained by Roger Teal, in the King's Stand Stakes ahead of Arecibo and Extravagant Kid.
