Golf - Canadian Open
The third oldest continuously running tournament on the PGA tour, after The Open Championship and the US Open, held in July each year. Between the two World Wars, it was sometimes considered the third most prestigious tournament in the sport and players who won The Open, US Open and Canadian Open in the same year were referred to as having won “The Triple Crown”. Before the rise to prominence of the Players Championship and a move to a September slot in 1988, the Canadian Open was often unofficially referred to as the “fifth major”. It was moved back to northern hemisphere mid-summer in 2007. The event mostly been held in Ontario and Quebec, between them having seen all but nine Opens.
It was not staged in 2020 or 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
