Snooker - Classic Invitational
Born in Snooker's first heyday, the Classic was an invitational tournament held in the North West of England, initially for eight men, that grew into one of the game's first ranking tournaments. In 1982 Steve Davis recorded the first competitive and televised 147 maximum break. In 1983 an enlarged event saw 16 players take part before the following year it evolved into a ranking tournament.
