Football - Concacaf Gold Cup

The forerunner to the Gold Cup - the Central American and Caribbean Championship - became accepted as a major international title in 1963, with the addition of local footballing power Mexico to the list of entrants for a tournament that had run since 1941. In 1991 the first truly representative competition for national teams in the Concacaf (North, Central America and the Caribbean) federation was held when the Gold Cup came into existence.
