1988 Winter Olympic Games

Calgary, Canada
The 15th Winter Olympics was the first to be held in Canada, the fourth to be staged in North America and the fifth outside of Europe. The Soviet Union finished on top of the medals table for a record 7th, and last, time at a Winter Games. For the first time in excess of 50 nations took part in a Winter Games (57), and new marks were also set for male (1113), female (315) and overall (1428) competitor totals.
