Golf - Pebble Beach National Pro AM
This tournament derives its name from the links course in California straddling the Pacific Ocean shore.
Usually held in February, the first three rounds are played over three layouts, currently Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill and Monterey Peninsula by 156 professionals, each paired with an amateur. A different course is played each day by each team. On the final day the top 60 pros and the leading 25 teams play at Pebble Beach.
Actor/singer Bing Crosby gave his name to the tournament from 1937 to 1985. The event was held at Rancho Santa Fe from its inauguration through to 1942. After World War II it moved to Pebble Beach, Cypress Point and Monterey Peninsula until 1966.
In 1967 Spyglass Hill replaced Monterey Peninsula and has been used ever since, apart from 1977 when Monterey Peninsula was utilised. In 1991 Cypress Point was dropped and replaced by Poppy Hills. In 2010 Monterey Peninsula rejoined the event at Poppy Hills' expense.
