Football - Russian Premier League
The championship of Russia came into existence in 1992, after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. In 2002 the competition was rebranded as the Russian Premier League. Until 2011-12 the league was run during Spring-Autumn, to avoid the depths of the Russian winter, but since it has adopted a last Summer-Spring schedule.
