Golf - San Diego Open
One of the longest-established stops on the PGA Tour, the San Diego tournament is traditionally played in early season as part of the "West Coast Swing" in California.
From 1952–53 it was staged at San Diego Country Club, in 1954 it was held at Rancho Santa Fe and 1955 saw it moved to Mission Valley Country Club where (apart from stops at Singing Hills Country Club in 1956 and Rancho Bernardo in 1964) it stayed through to 1967. In 1968 the event was shifted to its current home, Torrey Pines in La Jolla, where players split their first 36 holes between the North and South Courses, then play the final 36 on the South Course. Gene Littler won the 1954 tournament as an amateur.
