Cricket - Sheffield Shield
The domestic first-class competition of Australia is contested by six states, in matches set to last four days, on a home and away league basis. Since 1982-83, the top two teams at the end of the regular season contest a five-day final, with the team top of the league hosting. If the final is drawn, the home team wins the title.
The trophy is named after the person who donated it, Lord Sheffield, and was first contested in 1892–93 between New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria. Queensland were admitted in 1926–27, Western Australia in 1947–48 and Tasmania in 1977–78.
