Golf - Sun City Challenge

This became a European Tour event in 2013. It actually began in 1981 as the Million Dollar Challenge with a star-studded field of five - Seve Ballesteros, Johnny Miller, Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino and South Africa's Gary Player. And it's Player who the venue in Sun City, in his native country South Africa, is named.  Until the abolition of apartheid in the early 1990s, the event attracted adverse publicity as Sun City was a venue that many sports stars and entertainers avoided in protest at the policy. The tournament continued to have small elite fields until it joined the Tour in 2013. The event was not staged in 2020 or 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
