Football - Ukrainian Premier League

The championship of Ukraine came into existence in 1992, after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, as the Top League. In 2008 the competition was rebranded as the Ukrainian Premier League. The league runs from Summer to Spring, apart from the inaugural competition which was concluded only in 1992. The title has been won by one by the dominant forces of Ukrainian football, Dynamo Kiev and Shakhtar Donetsk, on all bar one occasion, the first staging, which went to Tavriya from the city of Simferopol.
The 2021-22 season was declared uncompleted due to all professional football being cancelled in Ukraine due to the conflict with Russia but the 2022-23 camaign wa splayed despiet the ongoing war.
