Snooker - World Open
The World Open started out as the low-key Professional Players Tournament in 1982, played in Birmingham and then in Bristol in 1983, before attaining televised status in 1984, changing its name to the Grand Prix and being staged in Reading. In 2006 and 2007 the event had a round-robin format for the opening round, before reverting to the familiar knockout schedule in 2008. It became the World Open in 2010, with amateur and female players given the chance to qualify for the closing stages, but that format ended in 2012.
The event was not held between 2020 and 2023 due to travel restrictions imposed by China's government
