  1. Trainer Ger Lyons won the first big race of the delayed 2020 Irish flat racing season, the 2,000 Guineas, with the unbeaten Siskin in blustery conditions at The Curragh. It was Lyons' first victory in any classic.

Aidan O'Brien put out six of the 11 horses and it was his Fort Myers who made the running, setting the pace for Lope Y Fernandez to hit the front inside the final two furlongs but it was Siskin, under  jockey Colin Keane, who delivered the prize with a stunning burst in the final stages. 2. Belgium's Luca Brecel won the Championship League title in Milton Keynes, in a dramatic finish to the first tournament staged since the Covid-19 outbreak halted the World Snooker Tour in March.

Brecel, the world No.37, could afford to draw the final four-frame match of the 11-day event against Englishman Ben Woollaston, ranked No.38, having beaten England's Stuart Bingham and drawn with Ryan Day of Wales in earlier matches in the four-man Final Group. Woollaston had to win after beating Day but losing to Bingham.

Brecel confidently took the opener but Woollaston responded with a 141 clearance and then compiled another century (126) to take it to a deciding frame. Yet it was the Belgian who came good when it really mattered with a run of 111 to seal his second career title, three years after his first, the 2017 China Championship.
