Tennis - ATP Madrid Open
Spain became a stop on the ATP Masters Series in 2002, when Madrid took over the May slot previously held by Stockholm, Essen and Stuttgart. Initially the tournament was held on indoor hard courts at the Madrid Arena, but since 2009 it has been staged on clay at the Caja Magica. The colour of the courts was changed to blue from 2012 - the only event on the tour played on such a surface. The event was not staged in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
