Basketball - Olympic Games
Men
Men's basketball made its first appearance in the Olympics in 1936, although it had been a "demonstration sport" in 1904. That initial tournament was held outdoors and began the USA's amazing winning streak of seven straight Golds, including 63 undefeated matches, which ended with the controversial defeat by the USSR in Munich in 1972.
In 1992, professionals were allowed to compete for the first time, leading to several NBA superstars forming the United States' so-called "dream team" in Barcelona and subsequent Games.
